In 1832 there were no schools in Parramatta, where young Irish-born James Martin lived. So he travelled from there to and from Sydney, where he went to school, for the next two years - he walked, he hitched rides, he slept overnight at school, and he walked again.
Sir James Martin went on to become Attorney General, Premier and Chief Justice of NSW.
His story is one to inspire students about the boundless opportunities open to them no matter what the challenges.
